ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif late on Tuesday gave approval for appointing Barrister Zafarullah Khan as the new secretary of Law and Justice.

The announcement was made in a release late of Tuesday.

The prime minister further approved the appointment of Raza Khan as the special secretary law. Khan was previously serving as the Law Secretary.

Earlier in the month, the Premier Nawaz and Opposition leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah had come to a consensus on Interior Secretary Qamar Zaman Chaudhry as the new chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

“The notification for the appointment of new NAB Chief has been issued,” confirmed Law Secretary Justice (retd) Raza Khan. Under the NAB Ordinance, a NAB chairman cannot be removed from his office in the midstream. He has to complete his four-year tenure which is extendable. The only exception is under Article 209 and through the Supreme Judicial Council, in which the NAB chief can be removed from this post.
