Gunfight: Militants fire at police van

Unidentified militants opened fire at officials of the Bannu Cantonment police on Sunday while they were patrolling Muslimabad in their van.


Saadullah Khan, an official of the Bannu Cantt police said the incident occurred early morning when three policemen were patrolling  Muslimabad. According to Khan, the assailants opened fire at the police van and two bullets hit the vehicle. Police retaliated, forcing the militants to flee, he said.

The vehicle was partially damaged while no human loss was reported in the incident. A case has been filed.

Meanwhile, a cellular tower was destroyed when explosives planted by unidentified militants in Mandan, Bannu went off on Sunday.

Asif Ali, an official of the Mandan police, said they heard a loud explosion at 1am and rushed to the site. A cellular company’s tower was partially damaged in Sarwar Fathe Khel due to the blast. The explosives had been placed under the tower, well-hidden in the bushes, said Ali.
