QUETTA:

One Anti Terrorist Force (ATF) operative and two kidnappers were killed during a raid for the recovery of an abducted heart specialist Dr Munaaf Tareen in Qila Abdullah district on Saturday.

“Three kidnappers have been arrested. However, Dr Tareen couldn’t be recovered yet,” police sources said.

According to police, the ATF and other law enforcement agencies last night conducted a raid on a house at Kili Karez area of Gulistan for the recovery of abducted heart specialist Dr Tareen, when unknown abductors opened fire on them.

As the forces returned fire, two kidnappers Sabir Khan and Waris Khan were killed on the spot while three of their accomplices Afzal, Azam Khan and Mashkey Khan were apprehended. One ATF man Salahuddin also lost his life in the shootout while another Muhammad Ramzan suffered injuries. He was shifted to the provincial capital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Medical Association is on a strike call in all government hospitals of the province. The doctors have set up a hunger strike camp on the premises of Civil Hospital Quetta to voice their concern over the kidnapping of the heart specialist.

“Without the safe recovery of Dr. Munaaf, our hunger strike will continue,” the doctors added.
