Hidden hands

Letter October 02, 2013
Terrorists are just buying time in the name of talks. Government wants to talk with those who are bleeding Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to the prime minister’s recent statement that as the Taliban have disowned the attack on the Qissa Khawani Bazaar, we are naturally compelled to think that there are external forces at work trying to destabilise Pakistan and now we need to find out what forces these are. For me, this statement speaks of the naivety of our prime minister. For how long will we keep blaming others; for how long will we keep pacifying terrorists?

It is ridiculous to look for a ‘hidden hand’ after losing so many precious lives. The enemy is killing senior officers of our armed forces; it is attacking buses and our churches. What more proof is needed to find the actual culprit? If we persist in remaining in this denial mode, the consequences are a foregone conclusion.

How do we expect action when our political leaders are too spineless to even issue any daring statement, as is done by our military leadership in the wake of these attacks? Terrorists are just buying time in the name of holding talks. The government wants to talk with those who are bleeding Pakistan. Why are our leaders so lenient with them? If the ruling government has decided to give peace a chance, then it should not let others interpret this as its weakness.
