PESHAWAR: Fourteen people kidnapped from Kohat Road in Mattani on Friday were released by militants at different places on Tuesday night.
According to the police, a convoy of jeeps of a local 4x4 club coming from Quetta was mistaken to be a military convoy by militants who sprayed bullets at the fleet along with other vehicles present on the road in Sra Khwara.
Of the nine killed in the attack, six were locals who had rushed to the spot to help passengers after a road accident. Moreover, police found four abandoned vehicles the next morning and initially said at least six persons had been kidnapped by the assailants.
“We have no idea how many had been kidnapped by these militants as we have an FIR for the kidnapping of just six people. But now the release of 14 persons has been confirmed,” an official of Mattani police station told The Express Tribune.
“All the people whose vehicles were found abandoned in Sra Khwara by the police have been released by the militants,” he said, adding they were released in small groups in different places along Kohat Road. “We don’t know whether these people have been released after payment of ransom or not.”
