KARACHI:

The police claimed to have arrested a suspect red-handed when he and his companion attacked the polio vaccination team in Gulshan-e-Maymar on Wednesday.

The suspect was arrested red-handed by a team of police officers accompanying the polio team. Malir district police chief SSP Ahmed Jamal told The Express Tribune that the police officers immediately responded and arrested the suspect right after they opened fire at the team.

“We have also recovered a hand grenade and two pistols from his possession,” he said. No casualties were reported in the attack.

The police officers, guarding the polio team, responded quickly, which was a good thing since the polio team was able to continue its campaign in the area, he added. SHO Jahangir Maher while talking to The Express Tribune said that the suspect, Ameer Wais, 20, is Afghan origin and is associated with the outlawed, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
