Honouring the distinguished: President approves national civil awards

Tamgha-i-Shujaat for late social worker Parveen Rehman and Sitara-i-Shujaat for Malala Yousufzai.

President has approved conferment of Tamgha-i-Shujaat for late human rights activist Zara Shahid Hussain, posthumous Hilal-i-Shujaat for police officer Fayyaz Sumbel and posthumous Pride of Performance Award for journalist Wali Khan Babar. PHOTO: AFP

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari, on the advice of the prime minister, has approved conferment of national civil awards upon eminent personalities in various disciplines.

President has approved conferment of Tamgha-i-Shujaat for late social worker Parveen Rehman and late human rights activist Zara Shahid Hussain, Sitara-i-Shujaat for Malala Yousufzai and martyred police officer Hilal Khan, posthumous Hilal-i-Shujaat for police officer Fayyaz Sumbel and posthumous Pride of Performance Award for journalist Wali Khan Babar.

Posthumous Sitara-i-Shujaat has been conferred to Samia Noreen and Abdul Mansoor Kakar for their exceptional acts of gallantry.

The martyred persons receiving Tamgha-i-Shujaat for gallantry include Muhammad Bashir, Malik Taj Muhammad Khan, Haji Fazal Karim, Balqaiz, Hayatullah, Naeemullah and Anwar Mir Shaheed

The Tamgha-i-Shujaat for gallantry has also been conferred upon Muhammad Rafique, Mohabat Ali Unar, and Dr Shabbir Ahmed Magsi.

Science

For science, conferment of Sitara-i-Imtiaz has been approved for Dr Syed Khurshid Hasnain in the category of Natural Sciences (Physics). President's Award for Pride of Performance has been approved for Dr. Muhammad Arif Chaudhry, Science (Chemistry) and Dr Hamid Saleem, Science (Plasma Physics). Tamgha-i-Imtiaz has been approved for Prof Dr Zahoor Ahmed Swati, Plant Biotechnology/Agriculture Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering; Dr Amin Badshah, Science (Chemistry); Dr Jasmin Shah, Chemistry; Prof Dr Fauzia Yusuf Hafeez, Agriculture Biotechnology; and Prof Dr Izhar Hussain, Science (Pharmaceutical Chemistry / Higher Education Administration). President's Award for Pride of Performance has been approved for Dr Mohammad Mujahid, Material Engineering.

Education

Sitara-i-Imtiaz has been approved for Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin, President's Award for Pride of Performance has been approved for Hasan Shahnawaz Zaidi, Art & Design. Tamgha-i-Imtiaz has been approved for Dr Sharifullah Khan, Computer Science; Dr Akhtar Naeem Khan, Teaching & Research; Norma Fernandes, Education; and Prof Dr Iqbal Ahmad, Education.

Human rights activist and Pakistan Air Force veteran officer Ceicil Chaudhry has been conferred posthumous President’s President's Award for Pride of Performance.

Arts

President's Award for Pride of Performance has been approved for Shahid Abdullah, Art & Design; and Ustad Shafiquz Zaman Khan, Art/Calligraphy.      Tamgha-i-Imtiaz has been approved for Mussarat Mirza, Painter, Art Education; Ustad Nazir Gul, Music Composer & Director; Nijat Bibi, Hunza Embroidery; Raja Bhai Jan, Music (Instrumental); Mian Ghulam Muhammad Jhandir, Collection and Preservation of National Heritage; and Qamar Ali Brohi, Folk Dancer.

Tamgha-i-Khidmat has been approved for Park Kyo Soon (Esther), Art and Culture.

Literature

For their contributions in the field of literature Hilal-i-Imtiaz has been approved for Hilal-i-Imtiaz for Ataul Haq Qasmi and Zafar Iqbal; Sitara-i-Imtiaz has been approved for late Shehzad Ahmad and Dr Tariq Rahman; President's Pride of Performance Award has been approved for Prof Dr Tabbasum Kashmiri, Agha Saleem, Prof Wali Muhammad Khan Siyal Kakar, Younus Javaid and Ali Muhammadi Khorasani.

Tamgha-i-Imtiaz has been approved for Prof Qalander ShahLakyari, Prof Dr Nazeer Tabassum, Ghaus Buksh Sabir and Afzal Murad.

Journalism

In the category of journalism, Tamgha-i-Pakistan has been approved for Zhao Qiao.

Hilal-i-Imtiaz for Irfan Siddique, columnist, Sitara-i-Imtiaz for Muhammad Ashiq Chaudhry, President's Award for Pride of Performance for journalists Irshad Hussain Rashid, Khalid Ahmed

Nazir Laghari, photo-journalist Azhar Hussain Jafri, and late cricket commentator Munir Hussain.

For sports, Tamgha-i-Imtiaz has been approved for Wasim Ahmed for hockey and Pride of Performance for cricketer Zeeshan Abbasi.

For Services to Pakistan Hilal-i-Pakistan has been approved for Wang Yi, Sitara-i-Pakistan has been approved for Gen (Retd) C S Weerasooriya, Sitara-i-Khidmat for Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parrila, Tamgha-i-Khidmat for Wang Dejie, and Tamgha-i-Quaid-i-Azam has been approved for Prof Kazuyuki Moriyama,

Police medals

President Asif Ali Zardari, on the advice of the prime minister, approved conferment of Quaid-i-Azam Police Medals and President's Police Medals. The medals have been announced in connection with the country's Independence Day on August 14.

Punjab police

The martyred personnel of Punjab Police, who have been awarded Quaid-e-Azam Police medals, include Head Constable Allah Ditta, constables Asif Nadeem, Shahbaz Khan, Muhammad Hussain, Inspector Tabassum Hussain Virk.

Among the living, ASP Jawad Qamar, SP Akbar Nasir Khan, Inspector Muhammad Younas, Inspetor Umer Daraz and Constable Javed Anwar have been conferred the Quaid-e-Azam Police medals.

The personnel of Punjab Police who have been awarded the President's Police Medals include Sl Niaz Ali and Constable Tahir Mehmood and martyred constables Sarfraz Ahmad, Dawood Ahmad and Shahzad Ahmad.

Khyber Pukhtunkhwa police

The martyred police personnel of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa who have been awarded Quaid-e-Azam Police Medals include DSP Khurshid Khan, SP Hilal Haider, Inspector Sattar Khan Khattak, Inspector Apeel Khan, Sl Imam Hassan, Sl Khushdil Khan, Sl Ismail Khan and constables Imranullah, Bashir Khan, Ziauddin, Muhammad Ismail and Sareer.

The personnel of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa who have been awarded the President's Police Medal include constables Zahidullah, Aqif, Azam Khan, Waqar, Saadullah, Kashif, Qaisar Khan, Muhammad Hassan, and Khalid.

Islamabad police

The personnel of Islamabad police who have been awarded Quaid-e-Azam Police Medals include martyred ASI Muhammad Asghar Abbasi, and Constable Imtiaz Sadiq.

The personnel of Islamabad Police who have been awarded President's Police Medals include ASI Sher Muhammad, ASI Muhammad Akbar and Constable Muhammad Ramzan.

In Pakistan Railways, martyred constables Imran Khan and Sohail Mehmood have been awarded the Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal.

Balochistan police

The martyred police personnel of Balochistan who have been awarded the Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal include DSP Muhammad Jameel Kakar, DSP Ameer Muhammad Dasti, SP CID Shah Nawaz, Inspector Syed Arif Ali Shah, ASI Sangeen Khan and constables Rajab Ali and Muhammad Akber.

The police personnel in Balochistan who have been conferred the President's Police Medal include martyred constables Sanaullah, Ghulam Murtaza, Muhammad Riaz, and ASI Muhammad Manzoor Elahi.

Military awards

The President of Pakistan has also grant the Military awards to the following officers and men of Pakistan Army, Navy and Air Force.

The President should also be awarded Pakistan's highest civil award for the extraordinary services his government has rendered under the dynamic leadership of his two stalwarts i.e. PM Gillani and PM RAJA R. Their services shall be long remembered and cherished by the nation.
