Need for improvement

Letter August 06, 2013
The porters at the airport must be in the proper uniform with their names and numbers displayed on their pockets.

ISLAMABAD: On August 5, I landed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport after a stay in Spain. It was my first visit to this airport and I was pleased to notice that it has all the facilities of an international airport although on a miniature scale. The immigration hall is not spacious and I feel that when two or three international flights land at the same time, it will be a real mess both, for the immigration officers as well as the passengers.

I was also astonished to notice that the taxi drivers and the porters in ordinary civilian clothes could easily mix with the incoming passengers even before they could clear the immigration and customs procedures. This is very unusual as it is not allowed in any other international airport. The porters must be in the proper uniform with their names and numbers displayed on their pockets. I am sorry to point out that the attitude and behaviour of the immigration officer at the counter was far from desirable. He had a suspicious look for all the passengers irrespective of their age and gender. It was contrasting to the pleasant and respectable behaviour of immigration officers at the Islamabad airport, which I normally use for my travels. The civil aviation authorities are requested to please look into these complaints.
