PESHAWAR:

A Frontier Corps (FC) official was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Shagai Road in the jurisdiction of Mathra police station on Saturday morning.

Police said naib subidar Gul Zayad was present with his friend on Shagai Road when two assailants on a motorbike opened fire at them, killing Gul Zayad on the spot. Zayad’s friend Rehmatullah escaped unhurt, while the attackers fled after the assault.

Police said it seemed to be a target killing incident as the deceased was an employee of the Swat Scouts which is a part of the FC.

Target killing incidents of policemen and Intelligence Bureau (IB) personnel have witnessed a sharp surge since the May 11 general elections. One DSP, two SHOs, a sub-inspector (SI) and at least seven constables have been killed so far in target killing incidents along with two former assistant directors of IB and inspector Mazhar Ali Shah.
