Reserve university seats for FATA students, Nawaz directs provinces

Prime Minister says that this would facilitate the mainstreaming of students in tribal areas.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday directed universities in all four provinces to keep reserved seats for students hailing from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in educational institutes and universities.

They were directed to reserve 2% of the total number of seats for students hailing from FATA.

The Cabinet Division, Standards in Higher Education and National Health Services were also directed to make similar arrangements for institutes in Islamabad.

The Prime Minister issued the directives with the objective of mainstreaming FATA students so that they could help in contributing to tribal areas and serve as agents of change.

The Prime Minister observed that FATA was going through challenging times and that there was a dearth of quality educational institutes in the areas.

"The situation warrants urgent action from all concerned," he asserted.

US generals, in Afghan war have spent $20 (Rs 1700) billion on air-conditioning.

The total outlay of Pak budget 2011-12 is $ 32 (Rs 2767) billion.

Had the Americans ensured spending half of this money for Scholarship, and setting up Univeristies/Colleges in Waziristan, there would have been no Taliban.

There is not single university in whole FATA with 7 million population whereas there are 18 universities in Islamabad with 4 million population. There around 20, 13, 10 medical colleges in Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar and none in whole FATA.

The only Cadet College Razmak has also been shifted to Nowshehra by the so called Pashtun Nationalist from Greater Mardan, Swabi and Peshawar.

Naturally for the ease and comfort of kids of the corrupts, sold outs and UK/US agents living in Greater Mardan, Peshawar, Islamabad, Pindi, Lahore and Karachi.

Faqir Khan | 11 years ago | Reply The closed colleges in Waziristan should be opened immediately in Bannu, Lucky Marvat, Tank and DI Khan and relocated to Waziristan on priority. Government should give foreign/local scholarships in renowned universities like NUST, IBA, LUMS, NCA to only those students who are based/schooled in Waziristan, Lucky Marvat, Bannu, DI Khan and Tank. This option should not be allowed to be misused by the sons, kith and kin’s of those tribal’s who are enjoying in name of tribal in Peshawar, Islamabad, Pindi and Mardan etc. Enhancing existing Medical and engineering quota and special seats allocation for students in IBA, GIKI, LUMS, NCA and foreign scholarships for Waziristan, Lucky Marvat, DI Khan and Tank. A University Campus either in Tank, Lucky Marvat or Waziristan An Engineering University either in Tank, Lucky Marvat or Waziristan A Medical College either in Tank, Lucky Marvat or Waziristan Cadet Colleges each for the Lucky Marvat, Tank, Bannu , South and North Waziristan. Special Campus of IBA, LUMS, NCA, GIKI, NUST, NUML, SZABIST in special education city in either in Tank, Lucky Marvat or Waziristan.

@Abdullah Khan: Can he direct provinces? The dude still lives in the 1990s. After 18th amendment, he has no power over provinces in general and education in particular.

yeah right, a bald bufoon making decisions for university admissions....as if the country hasn't been been destroyed enough yet????? How about quota system for the slot of PM, and CM of Punjab.....why doesn't charity begin at home?!!

Great. The answer to all our problems is more quota and reserved seats. We have ruined our prospects with this quota system and yet we still press on with it. Way to go nawaz sharif.
