Britain had earlier banned a popular Muslim preacher, Dr Zakir Naik from entering the country.
The decision was announced by Chairman of DIHQA's organising committee Ebrahim Bumilha on Monday.
Bumilha said that the decision was taken due to Shaikh Al Tayyeb's inability to travel because of the worsening security situation in Egypt.
"Shaikh Al Tayyeb is unable to travel due to the situation in Egypt, which is very sensitive. Compelled by the situation, the organising committee has made a decision to name Dr Zakir Naik, renowned Islamic scholar and preacher as the Islamic Personality for the 17th session," Bumilha said.
Mumbai based Dr Naik is a medical doctor but has made a name as an orator on Islam and comparative religion.
Dr Naik has held many lectures and debates around the world, several of them in Dubai, and is popular for critical analysis and scientific explanations of religious subjects in the Emirates.
The 48-year-old scholar, who is a disciple of the late South African Islamic scholar Ahmad Deedat, has also authored several best-selling Islamic books.
Britain had earlier banned Dr Zakir Naik from entering the country in June 2010. Dr Naik had been due to give a series of lectures in London and northern England but new Home Secretary Theresa May decided to bar him for some of his ‘unacceptable behaviour’.
Naik had been filmed on a website making inflammatory comments, interior ministry sources told the newspaper.
According to the Telegraph, in a web posting from 2006, he said: “Beware of Muslims saying Osama bin Laden is right or wrong. I reject them… we don’t know. “But if you ask my view, if given the truth, if he is fighting the enemies of Islam, I am for him. I don’t know what he’s doing. I’m not in touch with him. I don’t know him personally. I read the newspaper. “If he is terrorising the terrorists, if he is terrorising America the terrorist, the biggest terrorist, every Muslim should be a terrorist.”

Light was initially thought to a particle,then when they found that the wave theory answered the phenomena of reflection,refraction etc..They regarded it as a wave.. But the dual nature of light was later proposed after the discovery of photoelectric effect etc
The small particle was thought to be atom,then we discovered about proton,electrons and now its down to Higgs boson,quarks etc
Compare this with religion where even after 1400 yrs of the last major religion,we are still at swords at each other because everyone believes they believe is true and the claims of others cannot be verified unless u believe in it first...

I do not have to 'believe' in the theory of evolution, only accept it based on overwhelming evidence in its support. On the other hand, there is no proof whatsoever in the jewish folklore myths regarding creation of Adam and Eve and their exile from heaven. I am not ashamed to admit that my ancestors (and yours too) share lineage with other primates and apes. Random mutations, natural selection, and survival pressures spread over millions of years leading to adaptations speak of the beauty of nature and our connectedness with all life forms on earth.
The same man who praised the killer of Imam Hussein (as) and the Ahle Sunna Wal Jammat leauge of India took him to task for it, going as far as questioning his funding and motives. This man deserves something and it's definitely not a prize.

Besides, the theory of evolution has the status 'proven beyond reasonable doubt'. In science, a theory has not the same meaning as in the every day speech. Creationists like to make a distinction between micro-and macro evolution and then claim that the first exists, and the second does not. Any argument or example one presents is either denied or is attributed to micro-evolution. That is a disastrous discussion, because the underlying premise, the difference between micro-and macro-evolution, is simply nonsense. It is exactly the same evolution, but on a different scale.There is no other underlying principle, no other mechanism.

How any country can ban a person on the basis of "If"? Dr. Zakir Naik said he did not know Osama Bin Laden personally neither could he say that he was doing bad or not. He added, Islam forbids the killings of any innocent human being whether It is Muslim or non-Muslim. Even the ban was non-applicable! They knew that had it been applicable the situation would be for Dr. Zakir Naik. So this was Intentional.

He is a swindler that knows that none of the people who are listening to his speeches are ever going to Google and verify the things he says. Zakir Naik does not even know the basics of science. Anyone who says "evolution is only a theory" does not know what a scientific theory is. This is why I believe, he never debates any reputable atheist or Christian scholar. Most Muslims who listen to him, listen in a frame of mind which "wants to believe". Thus, there is no inquiry, no skepticism, but just confirmation bias.

His Peace TV made me quite religious and I learnt a lot about my religion from his channel. I started praying 5 times a day after regularly watching Peace TV and Peace TV Urdu. May Allah reward him for his great work. If Peace TV urdu is made the offical religious channel of Pakistan, the people can learn a lot about Islam and the Pakistani society can improve.
He is a great man who is spreading the right knowledge on Islam. However, if you compare his recent shows to his past shows, you will see arrogance. He has become extremely rude in answering questions. Surely there is a polite way of spreading Islam and not by shouting at people.

Thanks Tribune for giving the full picture. While banned in UK for communal hate speech, Mr Zakir remains free in India to do and say, as he pleases.
