PESHAWAR: Two militants, associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban, were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Sheikh Nala area of the Mattani police station, Peshawar, on Thursday.

A security official told The Express Tribune that one of them was the brother of wanted militant commander Jangrez, who was nominated in the Badhaber explosion which killed 18 people last week.

"Roohul Amin was involved in the attacks in and around the Peshawar city," said the official.

The other militant was identified as Yousuf.

On the other hand, an Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) was killed and a Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel was also injured in the encounter with the militants Thursday afternoon.

Police and security forces had launched a search operation in Shera Kera area early in the morning and also entered the Frontier Region (FR Peshawar).

During the operation in Mattani adjacent to the FR Peshawar, police came into contact with two armed militants who had taken shelter in an uninhabited house.

The police surrounded the house and asked the militants to surrender but they opened fire at the police instead, killing an ASI of the elite force, Duad Khan, on the spot while injuring a constable of Fortier Constabulary (FC). Both the militants were also killed in the encounter.

Meanwhile, the search operation in Sambi Khel, Murad Khel and Hassan Khel went on till the filing of this report and local said that the security forces had entered the mountains where militants had established bases.

“The entire FR Peshawar has been surrounded by the security forces and people have been asked to stay inside their houses,” said a local elder on the condition of anonymity.
