Holding transparent elections

Letter June 25, 2013
Imran has repeatedly said he wants results of those four constituencies investigated so as to set right precedence.

VANCOUVER, CANADA: This is in response to Shabbir Ahmad Khan’s article “Meet the PTI chairman” (June 25). The writer states: “It is interesting to note that Mr Khan has expressed his concerns with regard to over 25 constituencies, of which only four, he demands, should be electronically analysed. If all these seats are given to the PTI supposedly, the PML-N still remains the majority party.”

Although the writer has met Imran Khan, he apparently has not been following the statements he makes regularly, which point to the real intent of writing this article. Imran Khan has repeatedly said that he wants the results of those four constituencies investigated so as to set the right precedence for the betterment of democracy. He is not interested in recounting in all constituencies. Just imagine, what would happen if the outcome of a transparent investigation, based on biometrics, proves the results wrong for even one constituency. It will clearly prove that irregularities did occur on polling day and that better, more transparent methods are required to hold free and fair elections.
