Targeted assault: Constable injured by masked gunmen

Nawaz was on his way to work when masked gunmen on a motorcycle intercepted him and opened fire, says police.

A police official was shot and injured by unidentified militants in Yar Hussain Bazaar of Swabi district on Thursday.


Yar Hussain police official Jawad Khan said constable Nawaz Khan was on his way to work when masked gunmen on a motorcycle intercepted him and opened fire, leaving him seriously wounded. Jawad added Nawaz had been deployed at a local bank branch.

The police official said the injured was shifted to Yar Hussain Rural Health Centre, but was referred to Lady Reading Hospital due to his critical condition.

“He (Nawaz) was shot twice in the chest by a pistol,” said Jawad. Following the incident, the police launched a search operation in Yar Hussain and on its outskirts and arrested 23 suspects, he added.
