The need to contain Modi

Letter June 10, 2013
For a better and peaceful future of India, Modi’s rise has to be contained at all costs.

KOLKATA: This is with reference to Aakar Patel’s article “The Congress’s flawed strategy” (June 8). To some extent, the writer is correct in pointing out the flaws in the Congress party’s approach in Gujarat. Failing to put up a strong resistance against the bulldozing communal forces led by Narendra Modi will bring more misfortune upon the people of India. In the future, we might have to reflect on the 2002 riots as just a trailer.

It is a bug that not only poses a challenge to the Congress and the secular ethos of India, it has given a severe headache to the more moderate BJP leaders like Jaswant Singh, Yashwant Sinha, Sushma Swaraj and even LK Advani. All these leaders are known to be opposed to Modi. For a better and peaceful future of India, Modi’s rise has to be contained at all costs.
