SWABI:

Following the surge in attacks on Awami National Party (ANP) activists and leaders in Swabi, police launched a crackdown in the district and arrested several suspects.

Talking to the media on Monday, Swabi District Police Officer (DPO) Mian Saeed said he had directed Rajar Circle’s DSP to launch a crackdown against suspects to curb attacks on ANP activists. The operation began in the late hours of Sunday and continued till Monday morning, he added.

During the crackdown, 67 suspects were arrested from Narangi, Parmoli and other areas on their outskirts. In addition, 47 unregistered motorcycles were confiscated, while seven AK-47s, 12 assault rifles, three guns, seven pistols and around 2,000 bullets were recovered from the arrested suspects, informed Saeed.

The DPO said more raids will be carried out on the houses of suspects in other areas of the district as well.

ANP activists have recently come under a number of terrorist attacks in Swabi. On April 28, a remote-controlled bomb exploded at the rally of ANP candidate for PK-32 Swabi, Amir Rahman, killing a seven-year-old boy and injuring five others.

On April 12, an ANP activist was injured when a remote-controlled bomb planted at a roadside in Shewa village exploded near Rehman’s convoy.
