LAHORE: Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed the health secretary and the drug regulatory authority to submit detailed replies to allegations of negligence in controlling the measles outbreak. The judge also issued notices to the attorney general and the advocate general to assist the court in the matter on the next hearing in the first week of March. Advocate Azhar Siddique had petitioned that the government’s lack of action in controlling measles and providing vaccines had led to an outbreak and caused several deaths. The government had taken no protective measures and vaccines were not available in the province, he said. The government had launched an anti-measles campaign three years ago but later scrapped it, he said. Justice Ahsan said it was alarming that so many children had died from a curable disease.
