Sindh’s MPAs have passed into law the “Sindh Protection of Breast-feeding and Child Nutrition Bill 2013.”
It aims to ensure safe and adequate nutrition for infants and young children by promoting and protecting breast-feeding. It will also regulate the marketing and promotion of products including breastmilk substitutes and feeding bottles, valves for feeding bottles, nipple shields etc. Anyone who manufactures, distributes substandard products can be prosecuted with imprisonment of a maximum term of two years and a fine between Rs50,000 and Rs500,000.
