Karachi port: Transporters, shippers resolve dispute

It was decided that the agreement reached will be applicable to fresh import and export containers from February 6.

Following the eruption of a dispute between shipping companies and transporters, a meeting was called by the chairman of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Jawed Hanif Khan, at the KPT head office, which was attended by members of the Pakistan Ship Agents Association and transporters, apart from KPT’s operations team.


The purpose of the meeting was to resolve the dispute and efforts of KPT, led by its chairman, paved the way for it, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.

It was decided that from February 6, members of the Pakistan Ship Agents Association will start collecting empty lift-on, lift-off charges at their offices and no cash transactions will be carried out by the transporters at terminals.

Moreover, it was decided that the agreement reached will be applicable to fresh import and export containers from February 6.
