A tense LoC

Letter January 21, 2013
I regret to say that in this, the role of the Pakistani electronic media has not been very encouraging.

GUJRAT: The unprovoked firing by the Indian Army on the Line of Control (LoC) over the last couple of weeks has taken the lives of five Pakistani soldiers and injured many others, including civilians living close to the LoC. I regret to say that in this, the role of the Pakistani electronic media has not been very encouraging. And look at the way the Indian media has covered the whole issue. Their air chief and the army chief have issued threatening statements against Pakistan and the Indian prime minister has said that “business would not be as usual” with Islamabad.

And how have we responded? We have offered them Most-Favoured Nation status.

Our TV channels have been airing considerable Indian content and continue to do so, despite the fact that concerts of Pakistani musicians have been banned. Our TV channels can have talk shows and live coverage on the deaths of Indian actors but not on Indian atrocities in Kashmir or their unprovoked violation along the LoC.
