Pakistan on Tuesday attempted to defuse the escalating tensions with India over the recent clashes along the de facto border between the two countries by opting not to react to the hostile statements from Indian leaders.
Islamabad does not want to add fuel to the already tense situation by making “irresponsible statements”, said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.
Instead, Foreign Office spokesperson Moazzam Ali Khan said Islamabad welcomed the statement by Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid wherein he expressed his government’s commitment to strengthen the fragile peace process.
“Pakistan attaches great importance to the ongoing peace process with India, and is committed to resolve the issue of LoC violations under the agreed mechanism,” Khan added.
He also reiterated Pakistan’s offer to hold a thorough investigation into the recent ceasefire violations by the United Nations Military Observer’s Group for India and Pakistan.

The spokesperson underlined Pakistan’s desire to continue with the dialogue process with India in a sustained and result-oriented manner. “It is important that both sides make serious efforts to avoid distractions in our common efforts towards creating a peaceful environment,” Khan said.
A senior military official said that Pakistan Army did not want an escalation in tensions and hoped that some of the strong statements made by the Indian officials would not translate into action. “We are closely monitoring the situation, but our feeling is that some of the aggressive statements [made] by Indian leaders have more to do with their domestic situation,” the official maintained.
