ABBOTABAD: A girl was wounded while trying to protect her brother from being kidnapped, police said on Sunday.

The Abbottabad cantonment police quoted Malik Mushtaq Awan, president of Tanzeemul Awan and MMA group of companies, as saying that his two daughters, a son and a nephew were on their way to the city market on Saturday when Sohail, Kashif and their accomplices intercepted them.

Awan said the men tried to kidnap his son, Saifullah, at gunpoint. When his daughter, Maimoona, and nephew put up resistance, the accused shot Maimoona and took Saifullah. Maimoona was taken to a hospital where she is being treated. Doctors say her condition is stable.

Sohail, however, rejected the allegations, saying that Awan is trying to implicate him in a bogus case. He said Awan was charged with possessing two stolen cars and kidnapping a worker of a car showroom in a criminal case registered with the Nawansher police. His allegations, thus, are a way to counter that case, Sohail claimed.
