Many uses of a dupatta

Letter December 27, 2012
I have seen women use their dupatta, in some extreme cases, as a first aid tool as well!

LAHORE: Much is written on the dupatta, as a marker of culture and tradition. However, I wish to be more practical and would like to discuss its various uses.

For instance, if there is no electricity and it’s very hot, and you have nothing to fan yourself with, then wet your dupatta with some water and place it on your forehead. Then, suppose you have a pesky neighbour aunty who always wants to ask you questions as you walk towards your home. If you want to avoid her, just place a dupatta all around your face, like a bride’s ghunghat, and walk past her quickly. Furthermore, if you are a housewife and would rather not do the daily chores, just tie a dupatta around your head and feign a headache. Apart from this, I have also seen women use their dupatta, in some extreme cases, as a first aid tool as well!
