Planned event at Lal Masjid

Letter November 26, 2012
Several British-based hardliner groups plan to address a large gathering at Islamabad’s Lal Masjid.

JUBAIL, SAUDI ARABIA: Several British-based hardliner groups such as Islam for UK, Al Muhajiroun, and some others are planning to hold a meeting at Islamabad’s Lal Masjid this coming Friday (November 30). They plan to address a large gathering at the mosque and then issue an edict denouncing Malala Yousufzai.

The said groups as well as Taliban apologists in Pakistan’s politics and media accuse Ms Yousufzai of collaborating with America to bring a bad name to Islam — an allegation which shows the wicked mentality of the people after her. They also plan to declare Pakistan’s Constitution and democratic system un-Islamic and will call for immediate implementation of Sharia in the country.

I wonder if the interior minister is even aware of this meeting taking place and what it intends to do since it will involve issuing many of the attendees visas. Let’s hope some sane people in Islamabad will take action before it’s too late. There is no point in confronting these people on the very day of the planned meeting because that could lead to a law and order situation.

Their entry into Pakistan has to be banned and punitive action needs to be taken against the current administration of Lal Masjid.
