Altaf Hussain said that Pakistan will see a revolution like that of France. PHOTO: MQM.ORG
KARACHI: MQM Chief Altaf Hussain has said that he will return to Pakistan if the people want a ‘revolution’.
In a charged address, the MQM chief spoke of ‘a revolution’ and said that all those who had gotten their loans waived should be hanged in public.
The MQM chief was addressing a party gathering in Karachi on Sunday. Hussain called on army generals to take action against the corrupt and said that action should also be taken against the feudals who had broken dykes resulting in massive flooding.
Hussain appreciated the efforts of the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation and said that the foundation had sent relief items worth Rs250 million to flood hit areas to date. He said that MQM party members had also worked for those affected by the 2005 earthquake victims, and even now the MQM has the most number of volunteers in the field working for the flood victims.
He said that if all political parties and their workers had joined hands and helped the flood victims and mobilised themselves in the flood hit areas, the disaster could have been avoided.
The MQM chief has issued a number of statements during the last few weeks criticising ‘corrupt’ politicians and calling for ‘a revolution.’
Hussain’s call to ‘patriotic’ generals for taking martial law-like steps against corrupt politicians drew criticism from political circles, with the opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar calling on the government to summon the UK High Commissioner to demand to know why a ‘UK citizen’ was instigating Pakistan Army and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani drew a blank on the context of the MQM chiefs statement and President Zardari chose not to comment.

Mr. Altaf Hussain is right in saying that Army Generals should take action against the corrupt politicians.
The last Chief Executive and the President of Pakistan was an Army General (Pervez Musharraf). He would have acted in a manner as Mr. Altaf Hussain is demanding now. But during his almost nine years rule, he gathered all corrupt politicians around him to strengthen his own power and to continue the President-ship.
General Musharraf waived off millions of rupees of the corrupt politicians of Pakistan. Who gave this right to General Musharraf?
When an Army General like Pervez Musharraf can wave off millions of rupees of corrupt politician and businessmen, I am not sure which next Army General would come forward to help Altaf Hussain?
It is only people of Pakistan who can remove feudal lords from the power as no Army General will do it.
I would request Mr. Altaf Hussain that instead of coming into power after sitting on the shoulders of Army General(s), he should take the people into confidence to bring a change in the country.
Right from General Ayub Khan up to General Musharraf which General was sincere with the common man? No body.
If MQM want to bring change in the country, it can only bring change through democratic means and not through any Army General or the Martial Law.
One of the problems with Mr, Altaf Hussain is that he does not listen to the people but keep on imposing his own ideas on the people of Pakistan to follow.
I would request Mr. Altaf Hussain to listen what people of Pakistan desire? His advisors are just yes men and cannot think up to the level where MQM can bring change in the country.
If Mr. Altaf Hussain wants that MQM should rise in the country then he should listen what neutral people are saying, not his party workers, who raise slogans after listening his speeches just for nothing.
Most of the people who want to join MQM in the country are hesitant due to MQM’s biased policies.
If was the basic fault of Mr Altaf Hussain that he launched his party as a party of only Karachiites and not the political party of Pakistan, otherwise, MQM would have come into power long time back.
Mr. Altaf Hussain should find out where the actual brains of Pakistan are? And he will find those brains among the silent majority, not in the workers.
The other thing is that MQM only award party tickets to bachelor’s degree holders and not to those who are under-graduate. How Mr. Altaf Hussain is going to fill in the gap from the interior of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and KP?
If Mr. Altaf Hussain wants to bring another degree holder’s parliamentarians in the country, but this was already done by General Musharraf and every body has seen in the country that “graduate assemblies” in the country were a total failure.Recommend

He has said that time and again. He will say in telephonic khataab that he is coming to sacrifice his life and his ‘workers’ will beg him not to come and then he will say, ‘Ok, if you insist!!’

This is in response to the post by Mohammad Ali Siddiqui.
I dare you say Mr Siddiqui that if you can find another person like Musharraf who can lift Pakistan out of misery like Musharraf did for almost 10 years!
The working poor got elevated, they had small cars, access to loans for small businesses. Pakistan’s economic condition was far far better than it is today. People were investing in Pakistan. Now they are not! In fact they are running away in droves……
Pakistan was doing great during Musharraf’s time. MQM will do the same, as all the development work being done in Karachi is being done by the MQM cadre’s. Not by these Sindhi’s and Punjabi’s. All Sindhi and Punjabi feudals are interested in is stoking Sunni Shia violence, target killings and causing suicide attacks.
What a disgusting shame these provinces and their neglected populations are for the people of Karachi!
Why don’t the people of KP, Punjab and interior Sind live in their own countries? Why do they flock to Karachi? Are their feudal warlords not taking good care of them?
Keep up the negative propaganda Mr Siddiqui……..pretty soon Karachi will be a separate entity like Singapore or HK, while you will soon see the US Army standing between these feudal warlords from Punjab/ Sind and KP on one hand and Karachi on the other.
The writing is on the wall.Recommend
Thank you Mr Aftab for your comments. It is nice to hear what MQM supporters think of Pakistanis and Pakistan, seperate country in tow. Please know Karachi was a metropoliton city way before the MQM and way before Musharraf, also Punjabis and Sindhis are not the ones who migrated from another country, they migrate from a province. But then so do the people of Karachi for greener pastures, does that mean Karachi is a bad place? Lastly revolutions rise with the people, not thousands of miles away where your security is above that of your country and fellow Pakistanis.

@ A. Aftab:
You said why don’t people from KP, Punjab & interiror Sindh live in their own countries?
How dare you call provinces separate countries. People of other provinces don’t come to Karachi to be greeted by MQM, they have always done so even when there was no MQM.
Every heard the concept of Cosmopolitan cities? London and New york have people from all over the world. Big cities always get migration from other places. And these people make the city great. Sadly, immigrants of yesterday are against immigrants of today.Recommend
I am 100% sure that if Mr. Altaf Hussain returns back to Pakistan it will make lot of difference. People do listen to him but his presence in the country will bring change in all four provinces. The most important “Will the most powerful establishment allow this to happen”? All our previous leaders who had so much love for this country were either hanged or gunned down mercilessly. His supporters are correct when they say that his life will be in constant danger if he comes back. We have all witnessed what happened to Madam Benazir Bhutto (Shaheed) on her return in Karachi and was later killed by still invisible forces in Rawalpindi. . Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan was also killed and the first elected Prime Minister of the country was hanged on a cooked up case. A PM from Punjab was given safe exit along with his belongings. The country does needs a very big change and as such must support new faces in the coming elections. Democracy is the only way to boot out unwanted politicians through vote and not through selections.Recommend
Agrarian Reform is very significant for the economy of any country. Mr Hussain’s workers have capabilities and enthusiasm to call revolutionRecommend
People who criticise Altaf Hussain are out of touch of history of the sub-continent.MQM party is the only party that is sincere about the development of Pakistan. Also a leader like Musharraf PMLQ party was a great leader who held the reins of Pakistan pretty tight. The economy rose up admirably and Pakistanis on the whole were content. Most of all the ethnic killings going on in Karachi since eight years were stopped remarkably. Karachi for the first time became a highly developed city. Also the comment that ‘Sindhis and Punjabis did not migrate from another country’ is ridiculous and immature and even stupid. Perhaps the person Saleem Rashid who made this comment lacks true knowledge of the history of the partition the sub-continent or he is just illiterate. The founder of Pakistan himself lived in Bombay before partition. Mr Zulfiqar ALi Bhutto completed his schooling in Bombay. Mr Jinnah’s plea to all Muslims of India to join together to form one country called Pakistan so that Muslims can have their own future secured. Everything was India before. Karachi was just a province of Bombay.Punjab was just one big state.Bengal was one big state.Partition was not done on a fair basis so that the Hindus got more land .The MUsims of India had a right to join as one country. To say they ‘migrated’ is ridiculous. But in spite of them leaving their ancestral properties and business to make Pakistan a rich country they were still discriminated. This was an illegal and criminal act. Pakistanis live for a few years abroad in countries like USA, UK France Germany etc and don’t they demand the nationalities and passport of their countries?People born in Pakistan were not given fair treatment just their parents ‘migrated’ from India. Just 63 years ago the entire region was one big India. So what point are you making? Think of yourself as a Pakistani first and not become narrow minded and low. This is why Allah subhanat’aala is punishing Pakistan for betraying the ideals of Islam. The Prophet (pbuh) insisted on one strong mighty Umma. We cannot even hold on to one Pakistan.Recommend

Musharraf has the capacity to unite not only the people, (he being Muhajir, and his wife punjabi, with a pashtun, barristor saif on his right hand, and people from other groups near him too), but also, he can unite this country’s institutions, he being ex-general will be a civil leader with strong army backing, bringing a nice mix of civil & military balance. His international PR is also helpful for the country… My Vote is for Musharraf hands down.

@Rezan
Parties like ANP and PMLN seem to be more interested in the development of Paksitan, whereas MQM is only interested in keeping its fiefdom under its control by hook or by crook.
You’re forgetting that 12th May, one of the darkest day of Pakistani history, was occured when Musharraf the almighty was ruling the country.
They are right when they say that Punajbis, Sindhis or Pathans didn’t migrate from another country, unlike Mohajirs. Also adding Sindhis in this list is ridiculous to begin with, Karachi is a city of Sindh and they have anyway every right to live in this city. Sindh was made a part of Bombay for a short period but after the heavy protest by Sindhis, its old status was restored.
How many Mohajirs migrated to Sindh when it was a part of British India? Most of us came her in the 50s and 60s, and we had migrated from India to Pakistan. Why do you think we are still called Mohajirs? Accept this fact instead of crating your own unique history and baseless arguments that don’t make any sense.Recommend

Well this conntinued slogans of Reveloution from a Mr Hussain has some hidden meanings. Calling Milatary Generals to coup again and start a Civilian Warfare to strengthen People of Pakistan????
We may not see a reveloution in Pakistan but i feel we would see a General steping in again, but this time it will be a Saddam Hussain typo General, because this will made easier for Western forces to come in for de-throning.

Mr Altaf, you have volountarily moved to UK and has become British nation out of your free will. So why this drama now. We are rather surplus and are ready to export them to any any country. So please stay in UK. Prove to the world that you can be loyal to the country where you live eat and progress.Recommend
With all those killing the comment of those who prefer change are those who wanna stay in this system and enjoy corruption. After all the one who has filled his stomach from corruption cant work in competitive environment, the idea given by MQM and Mushraf.
One thing all of us agrees is revolution. But i haven’t seen any revolution (effective and lasting one) without any bloodshed and killing the whole system. This is what we need. (Ab khud kuch kerno hoga) This means that every thing is now over, we cant trust our corrupt politicians of PPP led regime.
I read one more thing up there that, why don’t MQM change through democracy and stuff. Just answer my one simple question. One feudal lord (created by Britisher to keep their supports) which gives employment (although just like slavery) to 1000 people of one village. How can those thousands can give vote to any one else, when they knows that they lord will rig polls and will knew who voted against him, killing his whole family. Pakistan doesn’t have any democratic setup. Its like pulling a cart without wheels. One day will get – off and leave this country. This calls for revolution like French, or i would prefer bloodier then French.Recommend
It seems to me that people don’t get it.
Altaf Hussain’s call is not about bloodshed of the people or even many of the feudal. His call is about tightening reins against the feudal and corrupt so that the people are spared a bloodshed.
The appeal to the army can ensure that the feudal cannot conspire to turn the guns against the people.
Shedding feudal blood is not going to get anyone anything. What needs to happen is the repatriation of the money that has been looted away from the people. Some feudal blood will be shed because some of them will not leave quietly hoping that they can continue their corrupt system forever.
Many of the feudal will leave the country like Shah Iran did. So be it. Get the system back in order to work for the people. That’s more important.Recommend
The Mush era is no away to recall . What havoc he played with this
soil, how bluntly he ordered to kill our own people. Not only mush
but every dictator played a havoc with this Soil. Now Where does Mr
Altaf Hussain’s concept fit here? He wants to invite ‘patriotic’
generals to take the corrupt, feudal politicians to task. He has
perhaps forgotten the unenviable role the military has played in the
63 years history of the country. All our generals are indeed
patriotic, but anyone who got an opportunity did not bat an eyelid
before disgracing the constitution and consolidating his rule for
years to come, precisely on the plea of cleaning the Augean stables of
the country. Did those generals succeed or did they accentuate the
crisis and extend it to the armed forces by making them a part of it?
The real reason, it seems, is that Mr Altaf Hussain is now fed up with
his life abroad and looking for a way to make a return. Or he wants a
more dominant position on the coattails of some general. MQM cadres
are having a tough time defending their leader’s rants, as they are in
touch and engaged with the reality that Pakistan is moving towards
democracy, not dictatorship. Altaf Hussain is out of touch and out of
date and arguably overtaken by history.Recommend

Pakistanis must stop thinking of themselves in terms of ethnic divisions if they want to save Pakistan.Indians living in some 23 different states speaking different languages and following different customs ,dressing differently and even looking differently insist on calling themselves Indian first and even feel they are Indian first.
