Columnist Nusrat Javeed tweeted that Marvi’s car, being driven by her husband Manzoor Sirmed, was fired at. However, the couple remained “unharmed but shaken”, tweeted another user.
Geo News Urdu tweeted quoting Marvi as saying that she has survived the attack and has informed the police about it.
Marvi Sirmed told The Express Tribune that as they were traveling, they encountered a car with black tinted windows parked in front. Someone pulled out a gun from within the car and fired twice at them. Marvi said that they ducked and turned their car around. At this point the assailant fired at them once more. She said that they approached the nearest police checkpost, but by the time they returned to the scene of the crime, the assailant's car had disappeared. Marvi said that she did not know who could have attacked her.
A senior police official told The Express Tribune that anyone could have attacked her. Police officials also recorded Marvi's statement at her residence.
Meanwhile, interior minister Rehman Malik tweeted that he has sought a detailed report of the incident and also ordered extra security to be deputed at her residence.
"I have asked a detailed report on fringing on the car of Ms.Maravi Sirmd. I have spoken to her and also arranged security at her residence."
Earlier, a Facebook page had reportedly posted details of Sirmed's residence and called for her to be "shot on sight."
Here are a few tweets on the incident:

this is sham full act. government must protect her and her family
@Umer::Do you not see the number of recommendations Mirza's comment got.In democracy majority is authority,so better not put questions to him if you believe in 'democrazy'
I think people are confused/disillusioned about Islam. If you are a good muslim, it means you must also care for your fellow humans - that's what our Prophet Mohammad saww (pbuh) did. Those who get the wrong end of the stick or go overboard when it comes to religion are not right either in their actions. We muslims should be role model for each other and people from other religions should be able to look at us and say 'he is a muslim'. However nowadays people say this whenever there is violence. May Allah swt protect us all and give us hidayat - Ameen!
//Is she that important to make headlines ? Her common reputation is that she is a RAW agent, liberal fascist , and very much against the two nation theory and existence of Pakistan. Though her assassination attempt is much condemned but generally she is not liked by Pakistanis, however she often tweets about her affection with india, i am sure indians would be sad over this news//
This unbearably bigoted and ignorant post, subliminally justifying the attack on her, being liked by the highest number of people just says it all. Goodbye, Pakistan.
@KM: Agreed that Pakistan in an Islamic Republic nation but being secular is not anti-Islamic as Secular person is the one who believes and practices his own faith/religion but is tolerant towards other religions and faiths. So my Pakistani friends should not be so allergic to the word secular as in India people of different religions including Muslims practice their own faiths but are tolerant to each other and do not interfere or discriminate in others religious practices and this is called Secularism.
@HMM..: ahahah can you not read?? he said LIBERAL EXTREMISTS. Pakistan doesnt have any liberals all fake psudeo fake liberal fascists , who want have nothing in common with real liberal in west. In Pakistan they are elites who want to turn Pakistan into a pre revolutionary cuba style playground
@sohaib zeshan:
I can quote Jinnah's several speeches to put you on shame. Better do what @km suggested you then speak here. Jinnah just did not make 11th August speech
KM
Oh I read that and seen the typical religionist. As a result I became secular. People who don't want their beliefs laughed at shouldn't have such silly beliefs. ... Oh... in case you are wondering, Yes I'm agnostic too. @nuurries
Nurries
Pakistan was not created to be a secular state. It was created to be an islamic state. Hence why on the passport it states 'Islamic republic of Pakistan'. If your so eager to be secularist then I suggest you read the Quran/Hadith where there is no mention of Secularism!
The utter glee with which the religious bigots seized upon this unfortunate incident is so apparent in some of the comments. They can disagree with Marvin Sarmad on theological level but at the same time need to acknowledge the fact that the she is a brave human right activist striving for a Secular Pakistan and to replace religious dogmas, heated emotions, and partisan ideologies, outmoded forms of thought & consciousness that now form the major obstacles to progress.
It is not common to assign a label of Raw agent to liberals. As for two-nation theory, it is dead long since but that does, not mean secularist are against the existence of Pakistan. Having good ties with India is in our own interest. We are not Arabs; we belong to Indian sub continent with common roots and history. Religionist must stop barking at the wrong tree
@Mirza: You use 100 % saying Right wording so call human right activist( she is)
@Mirza: Don't put on display the typical Pakistani mindset.
@Mirza: Is this really you Mirzaji? You have got us all confused.
Did not Pakistani women wore the red dot.
@Huma: You are right; everyone has right to have his opinion, religious or secular. Others have right to oppose or reject them but to stop them forcefully is the real fascist attitude. Unfortunately, it is our common practice to stop those arguments where we fail to counter them logically, analytically or historically. We never learn how to disagree but respect others opinions. That is why we as a society have become so intolerant, prejudiced and polarized.
@Mirza: Well, for the liberal readers of Express Tribune, she is important. I guess you are on the wrong website :)
The point is, against two nation theory or not, her "propaganda" needs to be answered or countered with well thought out arguments... u cannot simply shoot someone for whatever views they hold... but thats the biggest problem right now...just shoot someone, to finish the conversation! uff!
@Mirza: Are you drunk today? What are you even talking about? Do you have any evidence against Marvi of any wrong doing? Then go to Azad Adliyya. Don’t issue fatwas from ignorance and bigotry.
What? Was tweeted by Nusrat Javed ? Whole credibility lost. Marvi should have and with someone else to break this 'sensational' news. Yawnnnnn...!
May Allah safeguard her. She is one of those personalities who are vanishing from Pakistani society very fast. Nobody dare to take stand against the hysteria created by the religious establishment in Pakistan, very few who do are vanishing away. Those who are calling her with different names are of same mentalities who were calling Sir Syed, Qaid-e-Azim, Iqbal, Faiz. Faraz, and Jalib with different derogatory names but now people are realizing who was right, the extremists or liberals.
@Mj
I think @Mirza was sarcastic. Or, someone is doubling up for him.
@Mirza: I dont agree with her views at all but attacking anybody and that too A WOMAN, is highly condemnable
@Host: You should be ashamed of yourself!
Glad to know she's fine. Just goes to show that right wing jihadis are not fond of those who openly condemn their barbaric ways.
@Mirza: Not your usual, well-thought out comment.
So the shooter came from "a car with black tinted windows". I have on the odd occasion noticed such vehicles being driven with no number plates whatsoever. Hmm...is she paying a price for her very vocal anti-establishment views, I wonder? Others, including Kamran Shafi have had similar experiences. It doesn't bode well.
I have read a few articles penned by her on DT sometimes back. She is a good writer and a very good human-being as well. May God protects her against any attack by these mindless barbarians. In fact I just watched the news item on Indian TV channel which says that the entire family is under threat. Hope Sirmed along with her family is given adequate protection as promised by the IM of Pakistan.
Wonder what has the "Red Hatter" got to say about this. I fear this might be beginning of the campaign which TTP had promised against liberal people in media
Looking at the comments above, its obvious that the terrorists have already one.
@Mirza: Whoever speaks Truth in Pakistan becomes Indian RAW Agent , CIA Agent , Ger Islamic
Its a common reputation of people speaks truth or talk sense in Pakistan
@Mirza: What's wrong being a liberal? Please read the other news also and see what these extremist are doing with common Pakistanis. You can never make an Islamic extremist as friend in your personal life. Then why you people are supporting them by writing such things against liberal people. There are two wings, Liberals OR Extremists. Choose your side wisely.
it seems ridiculous that some1 is firing from front and they got enough time to return and escape unhurt, either he was joking r was nt intensiond to make any harm to them..!
She is a brave woman who has stood up against extremism that is part of our pakistani mentality. I condemn this attack on her. May she be safe and sound. The jihadi masses of our nation just want to attack and kill everyone who talks sense.
Must be some young idiot hoodlums with a gun and it dont seem to be a planned attack at all as we have seen enough of terrorism in Pakistan and we know terrorists use snipers and Snipers dont need tinted glass window cars as they do their work with minimal attention and they finish off the work before leaving the scene and they execute a plan after good amount of homework and it dont seem to be the case here in this attack.
oh dear! this is too much. thank goodness she's alright.
"a car with black tinted windows parked in front. Someone pulled out a gun from within the car and fired twice at them" English film but they don't fire twice thats strange...
