KARACHI:

Residents of the Defence Housing Authority have been asked to watch out for white Toyota Corollas and Suzuki Cultus, as both cars have been identified as the most commonly used in robberies in the area.

This information was passed on to the Clifton Cantonment Board (CBC) by police and is now circulating among the residents through cellular phone messages.

In the last few days, at least half a dozen people have been robbed in DHA. The robberies take place mostly in the mornings when parents or drivers are leaving the house to drop children to schools. According to the police, four men have been reported roaming in different streets in either a white Corolla or a Cultus.

“As the gates open, these men barge in easily,” said Aziz Suharwardy, member of CBC. “The police have asked us to look after our own security.”

The police have been complaining for months that it lacks strength to cover the entire DHA as most policemen stand guard for high government officials and politicians living in the area. Suharwardy said that the Karachi Police Chief AIG Iqbal Mehmood has been informed a number of times about the rise in crime, but he has not taken appropriate action.

Why is this discrimination against DHA residents only? Political support is there!
