QUETTA: At least four people were killed in violence on Friday in the volatile Balochistan province.
A worker of the Building and Roads Department – identified as Abdul Karim – was shot dead by gunmen in the Kharkh Road neighbourhood of Khuzdar district.
Police shifted the body to the district headquarters hospital for autopsy.
Police officer Abdul Hafeez said a shutter-down strike has been observed in Khuzdar district for the last 10 days.
“When a shopkeeper attempts to open his shop, gunmen appear and fire gunshots into the air to whip up fear,” said Hafeez. “Local residents are facing acute food shortage due to the strike,” he added.
Separately, armed men riding a motorcycle shot dead a man in the main market of Mastung city. The victim was identified as Abdul Baqi, a resident of Mastung. Police cordoned off the area and shifted the body to the civil hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Meanwhile, at least two people, among them a woman, were gunned down near a police station in the industrial town of Hub.
Irfan and Gul Paree were travelling in a car when gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on them. The bodies were driven to a nearby hospital for autopsy. Police registered a case and mounted a manhunt for the killers.
Abduction
In another incident, a man was kidnapped by armed men in the Satellite Town neighbourhood of Quetta. According to police, Faiz Muhammad Durani was abducted by gunmen at gunpoint at Jattak Stop in Satellite Town.
