KARACHI: The bulldozing of the Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance of 2012 in the Sindh Assembly earlier this week shows how far removed from its ideals the PPP has become. The ordinance was pushed through the assembly without any debate and it was passed in under five minutes. Nineteen members of the Sindh Assembly who are in opposition staged a protest inside the house and even some ruling party MPAs were absent from the session as a mark of protest.
If the government does not allow such controversial ordinances to be discussed and bulldozes them through, then there is no justification really for having a provincial legislature.
