Freewill Marriage: SHC tells police to provide protection to couple

SHO Artillery Maidan police station directed to provide safe passage to petitioners from the court to their residence.

KARACHI: A division bench of the Sindh High Court on Thursday directed the police to provide protection to a freewill couple facing threats to their life. Petitioner Tahira Siddiqa, along with her husband Amir Ali Sheedi, approached the court for protection amid threats from their respective families after their marriage. She prayed to the court issue direction to police authorities to provide them protection.

Issuing notice to respondents for October 19, the bench directed the police to provide full security to petitioner, her husband so that no harm was caused to them. Petitioner was also directed to approach the court registrar, who would communicate court’s order to the concerned SSP. Meanwhile the SHO Artillery Maidan police station was directed to provide safe passage to petitioners from the court to their residence.
