Death anniversary: 16 years since Murtaza Bhutto was killed

Mir Murtaza was shot dead by the police in 1996 on his way home in Karachi.

Today, September 20, is the 16th death anniversary of Mir Murtaza Bhutto, the brother of the late Benazir Bhutto and father of Fatima and Zulfikar Jr Bhutto.


It will be commemorated at the PPP secretariat near Mazar-e-Quaid at 3:30 pm. His birthday, which falls on September 18, was commemorated in Karachi at 70 Clifton by the PPP-Shaheed Bhutto group two days ago.

Ghinwa and Fatima Bhutto will be holding a separate event today in Garhi Khuda Bux.

Mir Murtaza was shot dead by the police in 1996 on his way home in Karachi. Benazir Bhutto was prime minister at the time and this event brought down her government shortly after. In 2008, Asif Zardari was acquitted of the charges of ordering the murder.
