Pakistan test fires nuclear-capable Hatf-VII Babur

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan conducted a successful test fire of the indigenously developed multi-tube cruise missile Hatf-VII (Babur), having a range of 700 kilometers, Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement on Monday.

Babur cruise missile is a low-flying, terrain-hugging missile, which can strike targets both at land and sea with pin-point accuracy, the statement added.

According to ISPR, the missile carries stealth features – equipped with modern cruise missile technology of Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) and Digital Scene Matching and Area Co-relation (DSMAC). It can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads.

The missile was launched from a state-of-the-art Multi Tube Missile Launch Vehicle (MLV), which enhances the targeting and deployment options of Babur Weapon system.

The test was witnessed by Director-General Strategic Plans Division Lieutunent General (retd) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Chairman National Engineering and Scientific Commission (Nescom) Muhammad Irfan Burney, senior officers from the armed forces and strategic organisations.

In today’s test, National Command Authority’s fully automated Strategic Command and Control Support System (SCCSS) was once again employed. It enables robust command and control capability of all strategic assets with round the clock situational awareness in a digitised network centric environment to decision makers at National Command Centre (NCC).

The system has the added capability of real-time remote monitoring of missile flight path. The test consolidates and strengthens Pakistan’s deterrence capability and national security.

The successful test has also been appreciated by the President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, who congratulated the scientists and engineers on their success.

As far as my knowledge is concerned transfer of missile technology is limited to 300 KM range. While this Missile is showing for 800 KM. Also there is no uproar for transfer of technology of so great violation of Missile control program. This means this technology is definately indigenous and made in Pakistan. On the other hand Brahmos Missile is 290 KM while russians do have longer range missile for the same. This on the contrary means Brahmos is the transfer of technology material and not Babur.

Secondly I really congratulate my army officers and scientist they have shown this material to enemy who is planning to seize our seas. Sardarji, both Pak-India are poor countries and can ill afford such extravaganza—-space program, missile technology etc. Having said that, a country that is $17 Trillion in debt, with 50% of its population with no health insurance, its unpaid liabilities equals all of its national wealth, 4 million people in jails across the country, soup kitchens flourishing and its reserve account has $265 billion compared to China’s $3.5 Trillion and far less than that of India is spending $650 billion on its military looking for new ways to upgrade its nuclear arsenal and researching for additional ways to kill people wholesale.
I believe both India and Pak are on the right track to protect the subcontinent from invasions of the past. If Pakistan did not have a robust nuclear capability to strike back, I strongly believe that it would have been invaded alongside Afghanistan. Instead a covert invasion by proxy was launched against it, The Pak army like the Indian army has 200 years of institutional memory in this region and it overcame a giant that is on its knees so to speak.
During the first Iraq war, an Indian ship carrying food to Iraq was boarded by US marines and turned back. A western reporter sarcastically asked the then Indian defence minister George Fernandes what he was going to do. He quickly replied: ‘You do not mess with a superpower unless you can hit back with devastating firepower’.

Moreover nuclear weapons are evil and are never meant to be used.

On top of that, Pakistan is going to be a very lucrative market for our industry. For example you want to buy 200 railway locomotives from us.
