PESHAWAR: The US Federal Bureau of Investigation will lead the probe into a suicide car bomb attack on an American diplomatic car in Peshawar that killed two people, officials said Wednesday.

The FBI team will work alongside Pakistani investigators as they search for clues to who was behind Monday’s blast in Peshawar, in which an attacker rammed his explosives-laden car into US consulate vehicle.

Two American and two Pakistani consulate employees were wounded in the bombing, the deadliest attack targeting Americans in the country in more than two years.

No group has yet claimed responsibility, but militants linked to the Taliban and al Qaeda have targeted the consulate and its staff at least twice before since April 2010.

“An FBI team is leading the investigation of the Peshawar blast on behalf of the US government. We are closely coordinating with the Pakistan government,” a US official in Peshawar told AFP, confirming what US State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell told reporters in Washington on Tuesday.

FBI agents have arrived in Pakistan and will work with Pakistani counterparts to inspect the blast site and vehicles damaged in the explosion, diplomatic sources said.

US trying to cover its tracks by making it seem as if they have nothing to do with supporting TTP bombers and coming to investigate!

Inspecting the blast site is std practice in the USA — doubt whether Pakistan had even considered it. Doubt it will amount to much as it’s clear Pakistan doesn’t follow up even when the targets are Pakistani citizens.

    **strong text**INCOMPETENCY

So, why would the U.S. lead the investigation? The answer is simple & straightforward: because the Pak agencies are incompetent . They cannot be trusted to carry on a proper investigation, and there would be no credibility to their findings.

Pakistanis should answer honestly: Do they believe their institutions are corruption free to be trusted to carry on such an investigation? Recommend

Sounds like an order by the CJP…he’s already declared all state organisation inept and useless; might therefore ask the FBI to come in. Might prompt him to declare the FBI inept too.

Anyone who doubts that Pakistani agencies are incompetent and not to be trusted should take a look at the violence in Karachi and other parts of the country.

The first investigation that might lead to some concrete results. There will be arrests and hearings unlike in incidents where Pakistanis are involved. This is why Americans will lead the investigation. Not everyone is like us, they care for their citizens.

Wish if they could investigate rest of them as well. At least they are professional and well equipped.
Our agencies have no clue how to investigate any incident .. be it Benazir’s death or other gazillions of incidents. Although the only solution for stopping these incidents is to fence & guard Western border and expel all refugees and making visa mandatory for travel.
