The PML-N’s manifesto

Letter August 13, 2012
Why does the PML-N have to follow in the PPP’s footsteps?

LAHORE: PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has announced the manifesto of his party for the forthcoming elections and it is based on three ‘E’s: education, energy and economy. He has mentioned that the energy crisis will be solved in two years but has not specified any timeframe for education or the economy.

The PPP’s manifesto for the 2008 elections was based on five ‘E’s: employment, education, energy, environment and equality. Why does the PML-N have to follow in the PPP’s footsteps? Why cannot it develop an original manifesto of its own?

People wish to know details of plans announced by political parties and also specifics on how pledges made in election manifestos are to be fulfilled. For the record, the PML-N’s record of governance in Punjab, especially measured in the fields of education, energy and economy has been very poor. The PML-N must be aware of the threat that the PTI poses to it in the upcoming elections and, therefore, should come up with more innovative manifestos.
