RAWALPINDI: A woman was shot dead by her brother on Wednesday, allegedly for marrying a man of her own choosing. Masta Bibi, 21, was killed by her brother, Fateh Muhammad, in Chakbeli Khan a town in the outskirts of Rawalpindi city. Bibi had left her hometown in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa with her husband Mina Khan after they married against the consent of their families a few months ago, said Sub Inspector Karamat Ali, the investigation officer for the case. After constant moving around, the couple settled in Chakbeli Khan thinking it was safe, but the woman’s brother found them, the police officer said. After shooting his sister in head with 30-bore pistol, Muhammad escaped from the scene, the sub inspector added. The police shifted the dead body to District Headquarter Hospital for a postmortem. No criminal case had been registered by the Chontra police when this report was filed.
