Karachi violence: At least 19 killed within 24 hours

KARACHI: As the spate of unrest continues in the city, at least 18 people have been killed within 24 hours due to firing and other incidences of violence, Express News reported on Sunday.
A political activist was shot dead by unknown armed men in the New Karachi area, while a body of another activist was found in the Shirin Jinnah Colony. Two others, also belonging to a political party, were injured in Korangi.
An activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was killed at Safora Goth within the limits of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station. Police officials said that the deceased identified as Shakeel aka Mamu, was sitting in front his house when two men riding on a motorcycle targeted him. He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, a personnel of the Pakistan Navy succumbed to his injuries during treatment at JPMC. He was injured near Natha Khan Goth within Shah Faisal Colony police station on Saturday night.
He was identified as Kamran Ali.
Police officials said that the incident took place when a group of criminals opened fire at the police mobile near Natha Khan Goth in which a police head constable, namely Ghulam Raza was killed while a Navy personnel who was passing from there was injured.
One person was shot to death in Malir whereas the body of one woman was recovered from Sohrab Goth.
Two men were killed in the Baloch Para area of Orangi Town whereas a gagged and bound body was recovered from Memon Goth.
Unknown assailaints killed Jaman Shah and his wife in Khokarapar No 4 after forcibly entering their residence.
In Orangi Town No 12, Syed Faisal Jamal, a Sindh High Court (SHC) employee, and Jamil Baloch of Baldia town were killed in separate incidents of firing.
Two tortured bodies were recovered from ditches in the Aaso Goth area of Malir and al Asif Square in Sohrab Goth.
A truck driver, Fatehullah in the Korangi Industrial Area and a man identified as Shiraz Memon were killed on Jamshed Road, both in incidents of firing.
Police and rangers arrested one robber in a search operation in the Hazara Chowk area of Natha Khan and a wanted criminal, Dada Baskar, was arrested from the Bakra Peeri area of Lyari.
Police arrest extortionists, killer
In a police operation, security personnel arrested three extortionists and a killer accused of murdering a member of a political party.
According to DSP Wasif Qureshi, the extortionists – identified as Shakir Dawood, Imran and Siraj – were involved in blackmailing traders across the city for money.
Qureshi added that these extortionists had recently demanded Rs2 million from a trader.

I think violence in Pakistan, more specifically in Karachi is a direct result of the so-called “two nation” theory adopted by Pakistan by which no two people with different thinking, perception or culture can live together.
Earlier it was only Hindus (and other non-muslims such as Sikhs or Christians) now it is Ahmadiyas, Shias, Baloch, Hazaras, Mohajirs, Pushtoons, Barelvis or any other sect within Islam.

If SC / judiciary recommendations given on the eve of suo moto notice last yr to the govt were to be followed this wud hv decreased, but there is no political will on the part of political parties to STOP.And this may increase as election time nears bcz all wants a pc of pie in political setup….in this, the biggest beneficiary is PPP & MQM ( Mohajir Q M ).MQM is being used to weaken MQM, ANP & others.Hv you guys ever observed that MQM ( Mohajir Q M ) is never mentioned…a small group of people is enough to cause fighting among other groups if one guy from MQM & one guy from ANP is killed…then both parties starts killing each other & the cycle goes on, police/ Rangers being silent spectator bcz they hv no power to catch any of these guys & if they do, are released immediately.Till today hv we seen any target killers claimed to be caught been produced in court ?..NO.Recommend

You need a media that does not stop police and Rangers from doing their part. Remember what happened during the Lyari operation? If the police and Rangers can work with the same lack of political interference (As they tried to that time) they can surely solve the problem.

There are two solutions, either we arm all the civilians and let them defend themselves or take action similar to one taken some years back.
If a meeting to discuss promotions can last for two days why not meet and come up with a strategy and a concrete plan, before this spreads to other parts of the country. Sitting on the sidelines won’t solve the problem.Recommend
