PTI to take peace caravan to Waziristan by late September: Imran Khan

Published: July 14, 2012

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) will take a peace caravan to Waziristan, a place engulfed by militancy and security operations, by late September, announced party chief Imran Khan during a rally in Peshawar on Saturday.

“We will take representatives of human rights organisations and the media with us. We will march for peace,” said Khan, adding that the party wants to show the government that ‘innocent people’ are being killed in the area.

According to Khan, the party is holding protests to force the government to come out of the US war. “This is not our war, this is not Pakistan’s war,” Khan said as the participants started chanting the famous slogan of “Amreeka ka jo yaar hai, ghaddar hai, ghaddar hai (Those who are friends with the US are traitors)”. Khan added that the government is fighting the war for dollars.

The party chief also called on President Asif Ali Zardari to “bring back his Rs1 billion from Switzerland”.

“If you try to destroy the Supreme Court to save your looted money, then the tsunami march will reach there as well,” Khan warned and went on to bash the newly elected Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. “Raja Rental, end this loadshedding. This is because of your theft and ineligibility that people are suffering.”

Khan also targeted the major political party of the province, the Awami National Party (ANP). “We had high hopes from you, but you also became a pawn of Zardari and started looting along.”

    Why doesnt PTI take their Peace Caravans and Dharnas before the GHQ, the organ of the state that actually deals with the US and the US military. Why doesn’t he ask the military high command why they are failing to fulfil their constitutional duty to protect Pakistan and Pakistani citizens? Or is it that Zardari has told the military to stand down? And the military, that ahem ahem, has a long history of following civilian decision making is “following orders”? This is nothing more than political theatrics. Drones are wrong, but going to Waziristan is not going to end them, as long as PTI and Imran Khan, DPC and all political parties realise that they are not the ones making the decisions, and neither for that matter is Zardari. While the “war on terror” may have been imposed on Pakistan, that doesnt mean that we should be making common cause with various terrorist and militant groups across the country. The people of Waziristan may hate the drones, but that does not mean that they should be left to be ruled by militant thugs!

It’s foolish right from the start since it doesn’t even have the potential of being considered evidence towards them being innocent. How that is not obvious is well beyond me. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the

    Good strategy. There is a media censorship in the tribal areas. People need to know that there are innocents being killed. As an example, in the latest strike where 22 were killed, only 5 were killed in the first strike, while the rest were only there to see the damage when another drone struck. Unless timely cure has been found for this meancing disease it is bound(in fact already happening) to engulf other parts of the bidy. The fault lies in the flawed double game pakistan has been playing all along these years. The pakistani military is using the pakhtuns and kasmiris as cheap canon fodder to progrss their dogmatic strategic depth. Thankfully this shameful policy had backfired and no IK can stop this by holding futile marches. IK would make a grat leafer uf he shows guts and changes the whole policy 180 degrees. For doing this he neefs ti enter war with the powerful but cunning army. He has an opportunity. Otherwise chances are big that he can be blown up rather cheaply by some fanatics.

America did not killed our soldiers but Taliban did. Terror groups in majority are operating from Waziristan. People this isn’t a suggestion box, and nobody really cares what you have to say. Why not this why not that. Donate some cash to your causes or your time if they sting you that much. But afsoos you people are keyboard warriors nothing more.Recommend

    I am associated with PTI for last 10 years but I am getting disappointed fromt eh Khan sb move because people want to see your march to Islamabad. You arrived in Rawalpindi and people hoped that you would come to Islamabad next time but you go to Hyderabad. Are you waiting people died than you will come to Islamabad. Come to Islamabad. No compromise less than this otherwise ………………..

    @Jimmy Ghaffar:
    it is an area rife with murderers, extremists, smugglers, kidnappers. If you are so much in love with them, please by all means first shift your family and yourself and live among them. Then talk.

    Rallies and jalsas don’t solve the problems of Pashtun tribes in Wazaristan and Imran Khan cannot speak Pashto, the language of the Pashtuns to understand their grievances or to represent them.

    He is only going there to garner attention to his cause and possibly secure a vote bank, he does not care about the Pashtuns because if he did he would speak to the local issues relevant to them.

    “so called the peace march” Is the only way to show that innocent people are being killed there in wzstan, you can not do all this by all alone Mr. Imran, please set with the different political parties, even with the PML (N) and MQM, try to make one point agenda on war on terror, try convence all of them to take part in this peace march under the flag of pakistan, not under any specific flag.
