LAHORE: Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Thursday that he had achieved whatever he had wanted during his premiership and that he had accepted the Supreme Court’s decision to disqualify him, Express News reported.

Speaking to the media at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, Gilani said that prime ministers keep coming and going, but the assembly should complete its tenure.

He said the Parliament had not accepted the Supreme Courts decision.

The former prime minister said that he had wished to be treated well during his farewell and that is exactly what had happened.

Gilani also said that the end of one’s premiership should be peaceful, transparent and independent, so that the people can select the succeeding prime minister in a better way.

He added that he wishes that the supremacy of the Parliament remains intact.

Opinions of the court and political parties aside… How can the man say that? Pakistan is obviously a hard place to sell ideas of progress to and get changes made and all… But, how can that be claimed when there are still so many issues still on the table that have received zero closure?
Just what has he accomplished that he set out to do beyond sacrificing himself at the very end to attempt to create a sacrificial image “for democracy” and make a point?

Mr. Gilani, you are not alone. The total head count of PM dismissals stands at 16 at least. Army chiefs have sacked five presidents and prime ministers. Heads of state (governor general or president) have dismissed eight prime ministers. A prime minister sacked an army chief in full flight, literally speaking (only to be arrested by him upon landing). A president sent a chief justice home, and now the self-same, restored, and CJ has fired you, none other than his reluctant restorer. But being Pakistan, the the cycle of dismissals will carry on for elected leaders. Only the army and other corrupt will carry on without checks..

@Azmat Khan; can u name a single thing that he should be praised for? What did he do to be called “great” and “respectable”? If ‘educated” people like you praise the ruling government, which is famous for flouting SC decisions, corruption, mis-governance then I can only pray for our beloved country.

Mr. PM if raising CNG price to unaffordable level just because your wife got a huge quota of LPG, if appointing your matric pass (I m doubtful though) as MD of OGDC, if getting your sons elected as MNAs so that they can make money too (and they are busy in that), doing expensive shopping on poor tax payers money was your achievements then I must congratulate you; you have got more than 100% marks.Recommend
