Maj Gen Bajwa takes charge as new DG ISPR

Bajwa replaces Major General Athar Abbas, who retires this year.

RAWALPINDI: Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa on Monday assumed charge as Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Earlier in April, a military official had confirmed that Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had named Bajwa to replace the incumbent DG ISPR Major General Athar Abbas, who retires in June this year.

Bajwa was commissioned in Punjab Regiment from Pakistan Military Academy Kakul in March 1984 in 34 Punjab Regiment.

He has held various command, staff and instructional appointments that include command of an Anti Tank Battalion, an Infantry Brigade Group and a strike Infantry Division.

Bajwa has also been Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade and Chief of Staff of a strike Corps.

He has been on the faculty of PMA Kakul and Command and Staff College Quetta and has served as Deputy Military Secretary to the President of Pakistan.

A Graduate of Command and Staff College Quetta, National Defence University and Staff College Camberley (UK), he also holds a Master's degree in Defence Studies from Kings College London (UK) and MSc War Studies from NDU, Islamabad.

Bajwa is a Tamgha-i-Basalat recipient. He is married with three children.
