The increment in the minimum monthly wage should be at least Rs3,000.
KARACHI: While addressing a gathering on the International Workers’ Day, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani announced an increase in the minimum monthly wage from Rs7,000 to Rs8,000. The government should realise that prices of essential commodities have shot through the roof in the past few years and although the increment in the minimum wage is better than nothing, I believe that it is not even close to adequate.
If the government really wants to help alleviate the working class’s problems, then the increment in the minimum monthly wage should be at least Rs3,000.
