KARACHI:

Over a 100 thatched huts were completely burnt in a fire that erupted in a slum area of Mauripur’s Musharraf Colony, at Hundred Quarters, on Tuesday.

According to fire brigade officials, four fire tenders were dispatched immediately to put out the blaze. Around 100 huts had been completely burnt when the fire tenders reached the site. Eight more fire tenders were called to scene later. It took the firefighters around four hours to put out the fire.

The police said that the land was allocated by the government for flood victims who came from rural Sindh and there were around 500 huts in the area. They said that initial investigation suggested that the fire broke out by accident.

Meanwhile, the residents of the shanty town came out to protest on the road against the land mafia.
