KARACHI: The Sindh education minister’s wife, Shahnaz Mahar, was appointed as an additional secretary in the education department on Thursday through a notification issued by the Sindh government. Shahnaz Mazhar, a grade 19 associate professor and wife of Pir Mazharul Haq, served as one of the 21 community welfare attachés abroad for the last three years. Community welfare attaché is a position with the diplomatic status of a counsellor. In 2008, these attachés were selected on the basis of interviews conducted by a special selection board which was headed by the former federal minister, Syed Khurshid Shah.
