Seminar: Top legal minds support organ donation

Law Minister Farooq Naek said that organ donation and transplantation is not un-Islamic.

KARACHI: Federal Law Minister Farooq Naek said that organ donation and transplantation is not un-Islamic, as the religion values saving human life. He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on organ donation and transplantation, organised in collaboration with the Karachi Club, here on Saturday night. Naek added that donating one’s organs for commercial purposes is a criminal offence. Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation director Dr Adibul Hasan Rizvi said that transplantation is ultimately a last resort for people who need organ replacement. He that said before appropriate legislation was drafted and passed, the sale of organs was thriving in the country. Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim announced on the occasion that he would donate his liver to a deserving patient.
