KARACHI: Many people consider darts more of a hobby than sport but according to Sindh Dart Association (SDA), it is slowly making its way up the pecking order, especially among youth.

The SDA, an associate of the World Darts Federation, has been working with universities and colleges for four years and the Greenwich University Darts Championship, which begins in Karachi today, will be contested by 15 clubs.

“It’s hard for people to understand that darts is a sport,” SDA Secretary Muhammad Saeed told The Express Tribune. “The money that international players win in tournaments is more than what our hockey players get so it’s a challenge for us to make people understand that there is serious money involved apart from the fun factor.”

Saeed added that the SDA was also a member of the Sindh Sports Ministry and a national federation would soon be up and running. “Darts is about hand-eye coordination so there’s no age limit. We now have a pool of over 500 players.”
