Damn you, Siachen (IV)

Letter April 14, 2012
The two poor nations are wasting their resources on deploying hundreds of soldiers on very high mountains.

LAHORE: The Gayari tragedy is the worst outcome of India-Pakistan animosity in recent times. The two poor nations are wasting their resources on deploying hundreds of soldiers on very high mountains in a war that only the weather really wins. Meanwhile, hundreds of millions of people on both sides of the border continue to languish in poverty, primarily because the money that should be spent on their development is instead spent on weapons and large armies.

It is high time for the people and political leaderships of India and Pakistan to bury the bitter past and take a fresh start for a better future.
