Exam question on system of life includes 'Zardari' as option

Published: March 28, 2012

Another question on Pakistan’s security, include options: Allah, Zardari sahib, Gilani sahib or Awaam (public).

LAHORE / MULTAN: What is the system of life based on?

To answer this question, Lahore’s ninth-graders were given four options to choose from in their Urdu exam paper: Religion, world, money and Zardari sahib.

These four options were given to a question allegedly derived from the chapter “Islam, deen aur Science mein faasle” (Distance between Islam, faith and Science) by Dr Abdullah.

Another quirky question in the same paper asked students, whether who was responsible for Pakistan’s security? (Pakistan ki hifazat ka zimmedar kaun hai?). The options included: Allah, Zardari sahib, Gilani sahib or Awaam (public).

The 75-mark paper comprised of a multiple choice question section, worth 20 marks.

Besides these two odd questions, the other 18 questions and their options adhered to the prescribed syllabus.

According to the sources in the Ministry of Education and Lahore board, the paper was prepared by the Dera Ghazi Khan board.

Initial investigation into the matter revealed that a DG Khan Government Higher Secondary School teacher, Hafiz Ajmal had prepared the paper, Express News reported.

Question paper preparation process

According to details, the Punjab board has devised a system where by questions papers are devised in the eight centres of the board. They are sent to a collective pool where they are shuffled by the chairmen of all boards in coordination with the secrecy department. This ensures that papers for each district are picked in a transparent manner.

Hence, the paper prepared by the Dera Ghazi Khan board landed on the desks of Lahore students.

Officials involved will never be allowed to prepare a paper: DG Khan BISE Chairman

Talking to The Express Tribune, earlier, Chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Dera Ghazi Khan Dr Zafar Aalam Zafri had said that the paper was prepared by the Dera Ghazi Khan board but no one was aware of it as per the protocol of the secrecy department.

“I am unaware but I have been informed by BISE Lahore officials that the paper was made by BISE Dera Ghazi Khan.”

“The paper was never distributed, except in Lahore,” the chairman said, adding “It was distributed amongst students of group A, appearing in the morning for class nine examinations.”

He added that except for the secrecy branch, the Controller Examinations, chairman board and all senior officials had no knowledge of the paper, the board only dealt with coordination.

Dr Zafri said, “I have constituted a committee under the supervision of Principal, Government College Layyah Prof Maher Mohammad Akhtar who will submit a report to me within 24 hours.”

The infuriated BISE DG Khan chairman said that officials involved in this ‘mistake’ will never be allowed to prepare a paper again and will be punished according to law. He said that the central chairman of all eight BISE boards, sitting in Lahore, would finally decide the punishment.

Earlier when Express News contacted the Lahore Board they denied having any knowledge regarding the question paper and the odd inclusion of the option, ‘Zardari sahib’.

It could not be ascertained who drafted the exam paper, although legal action might be taken against the subject specialist for including the current president in the list of options.

I think the option is valid. Zardari’s life style , that represents the life style of Pakistani feudals, is certainly an attractive “system of life” in Pakistan. I may have chosen it if given the option in the exam paper. The teacher who set the exam should be promoted.

The Zardari or feudal life system, is actually a very attractive “system of life” for those that can have it

You own large tracts of land.
    You pay no taxes whatsoever
You rule over and own the people who work on your land as slaves
    You have private prisons
You can have as many wives as you want
You become a politician , take out loans that you never repay
You lead a life of luxury
The local mullahs are in your pocket who do the praying for you so that you can go to heaven and continue your feudal lifestyle even after death.
You can go to Mecca on public money
You can buy and sell women like cattle
You own the jirga courts that punish people whom you want punished

So please tell me, what’s not to like about the feudal Zardari style of living, if you can have it ?Recommend

That’s Punjab, what do you expect? They are not often very logical or bright. The more vague, confusing or incomprehensible something is the more they think its deep because they don’t have a clue what it is.

Well to know the right answer, you have to know what the questioner/state wants.

“These four options were given to a question allegedly derived from the chapter “Islam, deen aur Science mein faasle”

So , if there is “faasle” ( distance/difference ) between deen/Islam and science, which do you think the state wants the students to follow ?

So the right answer of the 4 options Religion, world, money and Zardari sahib , is Religion. Thats what the state wants to hear.

( even though the best answer I think is the life system of Zardari Sahib )..

It’s actually kind of common to throw a joke answer in every now and then on multiple choice exams. It’s like making it easier to answer because you can cancel one option out automatically. Let the students have a laugh or two and get a sense of humor.
Well, at least I thought it was common.

Actually Punjab is totally out of wit with these two confused brothers. Punjab always find fault with Zardari, where shareef brothers’ incompetence, whether in dengue , medicine scam, or distribution of laptops, always put under carpet by our so called free and fair judiciary and paid media. Nawaz shareef, Musharruf and punjabi establishment along with judiciary, could not prove him guilty. Shahbaz shareef should think why he has been whipped by God and why Zardari and ppp govt are completing their term.

There is no absolute answer, the question is just asking what is the answer according to the article in the textbook .. For the people having problem about what the right answer is, they should probably read the textbook .. these type of questions regularly appear in urdu/english exams, the purpose is to gauge if the student has read and understood the text. Only odd thing was zardari choice

Why such odd questions needed to be there?

Students are given a textbook comprising Urdu literary essays, short-stories and opinion-based articles. Then such questions are given in MCQ paper only to know whether student actually read the text or not. So, although it seems there is no absolute answer to it but students have to figure out what the author said about it recalling the text.
