American ‘justice’

Published: March 26, 2012

ISLAMABAD: An American soldier, in a shooting spree in Afghanistan’s southern province of Kandahar, recently killed 17 innocent Afghan civilians and wounded several others. On September 23, 2010, US Judge Richard Berman sentenced Dr Aafia Siddiqui to 86 years of imprisonment for the ‘intent’ to murder US military officers in Afghanistan. On a similar note, Raymond Davis has still not been tried in any US Court for the killing of Pakistani nationals.

In all likelihood American ‘justice’ will prevail again with the awarding of a relatively light sentence to the American soldier. I wonder why different standards are applied to justice and human rights when it comes to Americans.

Raymond Davis was released by a Pakistani court after blood money was paid. Blood money is not really allowed for intentional murder (its for accidental death) but the Pakistani courts (and victims’ families) were okay with it so why blame the US for that?
