No parade this year

Letter March 22, 2012
I would like to request authorities to kindly devise a way to hold this parade, give nation something to be proud of

KARACHI: The Pakistan Day parade has been called off yet again this year. Till five years ago, the morning of March 23 used to start with many people waiting impatiently for the live television transmission of the joint services parade from Islamabad. The professional expertise displayed by the armed forces made this a proud day, reassuring us that we were being protected by the world’s most powerful military.

However, March 23, 2007 was the last time we got to witness this parade as it has been called off on account of security reasons ever since, which I believe is ironic as such parades are basically a mark of defiance and resilience by a nation that refuses to bow down to challenges and setbacks. Therefore, I would like to request the concerned authorities to kindly devise a way to hold this parade and give the nation something to be proud of. At least, next year there should be a March 23 parade.
