The Balochistan conundrum

Letter February 17, 2012
Seven labourers working on construction of a road in Turbat were gunned down - no one protested against it.

KARACHI: This is with reference to Amber Darr’s article of February 15, titled “The Balochistan conundrum”. On the day the article appeared seven labourers working on the construction of a road in the province in Turbat were gunned down. Hardly anyone in the media gave it more than the usual perfunctory coverage and no one even thought of condemning such an action. Not a single talk show host even mentioned this tragic incident, though a nationalist outfit publicly claimed responsibility for it. However, since those killed were outsiders from the province, I didn’t come across any protests, either in the newspapers or on television or on Facebook/Twitter.
