The transfer of ownership will help PIA save about $2 million monthly rentals.

Our Correspondent February 16, 2012

LAHORE: Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and Airbus has signed an agreement for the transfer of ownership of six A310 aircraft, which were acquired by the airline on lease in 2004.

The transfer of ownership to the national flag carrier is another step towards implementing the business plan of the “Vision 2020” and will help PIA save about $2 million monthly in rentals.

The agreement was signed between Managing Director (MD) PIA, Nadeem Khan Yousufzai and Director Asset Management Airbus, Patrice De Puymorin.

MD PIA stressed that the airline and the aircraft providers have a long relationship, which began with the induction of A300-B4 in early 80’s and was strengthened further by the purchase of A310 Aircraft in 1991.

PIA to improve fleet with 5 Boeing 777s

It was reported earlier in The Express Tribune that PIA will purchase five Boeing 777 aircraft from the Boeing Company of the United States.

The aircraft will be delivered by November 2015; with the first delivery scheduled in March of the same year.

MD PIA and Boeing Director International Sales J Miguel Santos signed the agreement in the presence of Minister for Defence Chaudhary Ahmad Mukhtar and Acting Ambassador of the US to Pakistan Richard Hoagland.

Why isn't the Pakistani National Assembly asking the US State Department to officially condemn the US - Baluchistan resolution currently in the US Congress and attach this and other purchases and supports to it pending that? Or maybe explore AirBus as a alternative as a protest...
